INTERDISCIPLANARY RESEARCH GROUPS
Heterogeneous Catalysis Research Group
NNRC-METU Heterogeneous Catalysis Research Group is one of the largest groups in the Chemical Engineering department. Currently, the catalysis and catalytic materials research at METU is implemented by five professors and more than forty graduate students. Synthesis of catalytic materials at nanometer scale has already achieved after decades of research on the catalysis area. The efforts to understand the relationship between the surface structure, reaction mechanism, and activity is the major goal in most of the research cases in catalyst studies.
One of the key projects that the group members and their collaborators are involved is the exploitation of the semiconductor structures for their photo-catalytic activities. The photo-oxidation studies conducted so far is now being extended for artificial photosynthesis, self cleaning and antimicrobial surfaces over well designed structures.
